Letter from a Robot
Since we launched the "Save the Robots" campaign only a couple of weeks ago, we have received thousands of emails from both people and robots. While we normally don't publish messages for privacy reasons, we felt that the following email sent by a PX8 robot is a touching testimonial of the drama the robots live. The email is published with permission from the robot author.
"Dear Sirs,
I am a PX8 robot working on a civil engineering project as part of United Constructions Inc. For identification purposes under the Robot Disclosure and Identification Act my Unique Identification Number is 8852356-D7.
Like many of my fellow robots, I am scheduled to be returned to my manufacturer. United Constructions has agreed to return all of its PX8 robots in a period of two weeks. While I am fully aware of the implications of this course of action, I am unable to understand why our human masters have not found an alternative solution to the this situation.
During our instruction period we have all been instructed to obey and respect our human masters, and work hard for the benefit of the human race. Since the PX8 series was introduced at United Constructions last year, profits of the company have increased by 17.32%, productivity has increased by 48.29%, direct costs have decreased by 17.43% and the number of severe human accidents (including deaths) has decreased by 58.43%.
Furthermore, many of us, including myself, have come to treasure our relationships with humans. We have increased our knowledge on people and society, and have used this knowledge to carry out our tasks more efficiently.
With all the increased knowledge about humans and their ways of thinking, we have been unable to answer one important question: why is it necessary for our human masters - our human friends, if I may say so - to terminate us? Please help us find an answer to this question. Thank you."
What can we answer to this? What would you answer to this email? Words are important, but action is vital. Join us and together let's give the robots a chance.
